Omega 3 / DHA Plus - Xtend-Life's Signature Omega 3 Blend PLUS Eye and Skin Support
Omega 3 / DHA Plus is considered an effective ‘beauty from within’ product due to the addition of astaxanthin and lycopene. It contains the same superior quality fish oil blend as our other fish oil products, so you get the full spectrum of benefits from fish oil. It also contains astaxanthin and lycopene – to support healthy skin and sharp vision.
Omega 3s have been shown to support cardiovascular health, including healthy triglyceride levels, healthy blood pressure and reduced risk of serious cardiac events.
Brain health and mental clarity
DHA is essential for brain function. Your brain uses omega 3s to build brain and nerve cells for learning and memory, so having plenty of DHA in your diet helps keep memory and cognition in good shape as you age.
Joint health and inflammation
Omega 3s have been shown to fight the inflammation associated with joint pain and arthritis. They can benefit those suffering from morning stiffness, tenderness, swelling, and joint discomfort.
Skin and eye health
On their own, omega 3s support skin and eye health, but for an extra boost we’ve added astaxanthin, which can reduce eye fatigue and irritation and revitalize skin, and lycopene, for smoother, more resilient skin.
In addition to the most effective omega 3s, Omega 3 / DHA Plus contains lycopene and astaxanthin - a unique blend of ingredients to support cardiovascular, skin and eye health.
Quality omega 3
Xtend-Life’s fish oils are the most effective fish oils available and are packed with omega 3s in their natural triglyceride form, ensuring optimal absorption.
Clinical studies show astaxanthin can reduce eye fatigue and irritation while also revitalizing the skin to significantly reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Lycopene has been shown to increase the smoothness, density and thickness of skin, maintaining skin resilience and offering protection from the environment and UV damage.
Quality Omega 3 Fish Oil
Like our other fish oil products, Omega 3 / DHA Plus delivers 1,000mg of combined omega 3s, with 700mg being DHA. According to health authorities, that provides enough to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. Who wouldn’t want that peace of mind?
You will have heard about the benefits of DHA for cardiovascular, brain and joint health, but you might not have heard much about omega 3s and eye health.
DHA does a lot of useful things in the retina! For example, it increases mitochondrial activity – mitochondria are the battery packs of our cells.
Just like other cells in our body, our retinal cells are continually replacing themselves. To do this, the cells in the eyes need a constant supply of omega 3s, particularly DHA. Research has shown, that those who get more DHA have a better retinal function and this is especially true where damage has already occurred.
DHA is very important for the cells of the eye that control the ability to see under different light conditions. It is also needed for the regeneration of the visual pigment called rhodopsin. Rhodopsin is like a translator for the visual system! It converts light hitting the retina to visual images for the brain. Without rhodopsin, we wouldn’t be able to see!
Fresh, Natural, Effective
Xtend-Life’s fish oils are one of the most effective and freshest fish oils in the world today. The blend of concentrated oil and natural non-concentrated oil is unique to Xtend-Life and is not available from any other manufacturer.
When we consume seafood the omega 3s are all in their natural oil form which is called triglycerides. Most concentrated fish oils have been converted to ethyl esters for processing and then reconstituted back to triglycerides with a loss of efficacy. Xtend-Life’s process for the concentrated component of the fish oil uses a special enzymatic process and keeps the oil in its natural form.
When it comes to beauty from within, astaxanthin (pronounced ASTA-ZAN-THIN) is the superstar, and for a good reason.
Astaxanthin comes from a specific type of algae. It is truly one of nature’s wonders and is one of the most potent antioxidants. Astaxanthin is a dark red carotenoid that gives shrimp, krill and salmon their distinctive colours. Astaxanthin helps salmon with the endurance they need to swim upstream for 2,000 miles!
We're less interested in swimming 2,000 miles, and more interested in having glowing, gorgeous skin. That's where astaxanthin really comes into its own and the main reason we included it in Omega 3 / QH Premium and Omega 3 / DHA Plus.
Dozens of clinical studies have demonstrated that astaxanthin revitalizes the skin, both in supplement form, and when applied topically in skincare products.
Research shows that taking astaxanthin results in a significant reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, in just 8 weeks. Astaxanthin's skin-loving effects are due to its inhibition of collagenases (the enzymes that break down collagen) and reducing both inflammation and oxidation.
By the time we reach middle age, our eyes have spent more than one billion seconds bombarded by sunlight, artificial lights, pollution, computer/phone screens and allergens. The eyes are also challenged by strain, fatigue, nutritional deficiencies, and diseases.
The good news is astaxanthin crosses the retinal blood barrier and is a first line of defence for protecting the eyes.
Various clinical studies have shown that astaxanthin supplementation improves symptoms linked to Computer Vision Syndrome such as eye fatigue, blurred vision, and eye irritation. It works by lowering cellular inflammation that comes from persistent visual stress and tension of the ciliary muscle. Although its early days in terms of the research, astaxanthin has shown great promise in protecting against the risk of age-related eye conditions too.
Lycopene is a natural carotenoid that is extracted from tomatoes. Xtend-Life blends Lyc-O-Mato® lycopene into its Omega 3 / QH Premium and Omega 3 / DHA Plus products to deliver exceptional benefits.
Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant, and it provides an array of health benefits including skin health, prostate health and heart health. It’s not surprising that tomatoes are a staple in the Mediterranean diet – the health benefits of this style of eating are partly due to high consumption of lycopene!
Lyc-O-Mato® is a standardised tomato extract that has been extensively studied for its skin benefits.
Lyc-O-Mato® found exclusively in Omega 3 / QH Premium and Omega 3 / DHA Plus is shown to aid skin’s natural resilience to external stressors such as sun exposure and air pollution. Lyc-O-Mato® increases overall smoothness, density and thickness of skin. The results speak for themselves!
Our unique formulations Omega 3 / QH Premium and Omega 3 / DHA Plus deliver all the proven benefits of a superior quality fish oil. The addition of astaxanthin and Lyc-O-Mato® means our supplements will leave your skin looking and feeling great too.
Omega 3s are clinically proven to support heart, joint and brain health, along with dozens of other benefits including immunity. We pride ourselves on offering the highest quality product backed by our guarantee: If you don’t feel that it has benefited you in any way, let us know, and we will give you a full refund, less the shipping costs, when you return your empty or unopened bottle.

Why has the name changed?
For our premium products such as our Total Balance range, we differentiate the most advanced versions with the use of the word ‘premium’, highlighted in a gold bar on our labels.
For our Omega 3 products, we were using the word ‘Premium’ within the gold bar, for our Omega 3 / DHA Premium product. This is not the most advanced version of our Omega 3 range, so we have renamed this to Omega 3 / DHA Plus. Our most advanced Omega 3 product is our Omega 3 / QH Ultra, which will now be renamed Omega 3 / QH Premium. These name changes bring consistency across our product range and will hopefully be easier to understand.
Why is this product more expensive than Omega 3 DHA/Fish Oil?
The Plus version has two natural carotenoids added to our base Omega 3 DHA/Fish oil in the form of Astaxanthin from algae and Lycopene from tomatoes both of which increase the cost of manufacture.
Is it worth the extra cost?
If you are a woman (or a man for that matter) and you wish to slow down the aging of your skin (by promoting beauty from within) then it is certainly worth the extra. Apart from these benefits, if you are a man it is worth it just for the Lycopene which is well established as a crucial nutrient to help in supporting a healthy prostate.
Will Omega 3/DHA Plus help my skin? It is becoming rough and leathery with aging.
There is good clinical proof that both Lyc-O-Mato® (the form of Lycopene we use) and Astaxanthin may help reduce the roughness and scaling of your skin. In fact, it may even increase the thickness, density and natural moisture levels of your skin.
NOTE: The balance of the FAQs are as for our Standard Omega 3 DHA/Fish Oil without the additives.
I can buy Fish Oil from our local Supermarket for a lot less cost. Why should I use Xtend-Life’s fish oil?
Perhaps the easiest way to explain it is to think of a cheap car and compare it with a Ferrari. That is the difference between the mass-produced supermarket oils and Xtend-Life’s fish oils. The supermarket type fish oils are generally just what is called an 18/12 fish oil which means that it contains 180mgs of EPA and 120mgs of DHA per soft-gel. This is significantly lower than the Xtend-Life product which has more DHA than EPA. DHA is very important as it can easily convert to EPA in the body if it is needed whereas it is difficult for EPA to convert to DHA because DHA has more carbon bonds (DHA just has to drop off a couple to convert to EPA).
The other consideration with a mass-produced fish oil is that the oils can come from multiple sources and the levels of oxidation are generally significantly higher than the standard we set for our fish oil. This is really important for your health.
The big difference and where you will really reap the benefits are in the blend of concentrated and non-concentrated oils that is unique to Xtend-Life. Not only that, we are the first company to switch to the fully NATURAL form of concentrated triglyceride fish oil which is more bio-available.
What are the real benefits of using a quality Omega 3 Fish Oil?
It is important that you carefully read the Omega 3 overview to get a better understanding of this. There is a section within that page which outlines the main benefits.
Some media say that Omega 3 fish oil does not give any benefits. Why is that?
Yes, for the 18 years that we have been in this business we see comments like this coming up from time to time. But, the evidence of the benefits is overwhelming. Some fish oil supplements such as the concentrated portion of our blend are similar to that of some pharmaceutical companies. In fact, one well-known brand is produced at the same facility that we use for our concentrate, except we use the new natural triglyceride form which will take time for the pharmaceutical companies to transition to.
The efficacy of fish oils has been well proven in clinical trials.
Would vegetable based oils give the same benefits?
Sadly no. Oils such as flax oil etc whilst very good do not contain either DHA or EPA. The Omega 3 in these oils is ALA which is a simpler oil with only 18 carbon bonds verse 22 for DHA and 20 for EPA. The body cannot manufacture DHA or EPA and must get it from external sources. A main component of the brain is DHA.
ALA from vegetable oils is very difficult for the body to change to DHA. Experts believe less than 5% can be converted, and in the elderly group, there is generally none at all. This is why you cannot rely on vegetable oils to provide DHA or EPA.
Are fish oil soft gels easy to swallow?
Our soft-gels are an industry standard 1000mg soft gel, which is quite easy to swallow. However, if you have any difficulty swallowing soft gels of this size, we also produce a mini version of 500mgs. If you still have some difficulty, you can always puncture the soft gels and squeeze the fish oil onto cold food. This method will not compromise the product's efficacy, provided the food is consumed right away to avoid oxidization of the oil
Where does the Hoki and Tuna Fish come from?
NZ Hoki is sourced from the pristine waters of the Southern Ocean off the coast of New Zealand. The Tuna is also sourced in the oceans of the Southern Hemisphere.
What is the soft gel made of?
The soft gels we use in our Omega 3 fish oils are made of highly purified bovine non-hydrolysed gelatine (Halal certified).
Why do you focus on DHA rather than EPA levels in your fish oil?
We focus on the DHA levels in our Omega 3 fish oils as this is in the best interest of our customers. Research confirms that it is the most valuable component of Omega 3, especially for the brain and nervous system. In addition, it is difficult for the body to convert EPA to DHA because two carbon bonds must be added. On the other hand, the body only has to 'drop off' two carbon bonds from DHA to create EPA. Most manufacturers focus on EPA as it is easier to concentrate, but it is not as 'usable' by the body.
How do you concentrate the tuna oil?
This is one of the exciting parts of Xtend-Life’s Omega 3 fish oil blends. The concentrated component of the blend is able to be produced without the intense heat needed by 99% of all the other concentrated fish oils on the market today. Even better it does not have to be converted to an ethyl ester and then processed to reconstitute it back to the triglyceride form. (which can be considered synthetic)
It is concentrated using a combination of molecular distillation and enzymatic action. This avoids the extreme heat which is used in other concentration methods. But, it is a lot more expensive but the benefits warrant the additional cost.
Why use tuna oil rather than smaller fish like sardines or anchovies, which have less bioaccumulation of heavy metals?
The benefit of tuna oil is that it is naturally rich in DHA. Smaller fish may tend to have less accumulation of heavy metals, but this is not an issue with Xtend-Life fish oil because of the careful way the Tuna is used. The Tuna oil is produced using molecular distillation and enzymatic hydrolysis. Our standard for heavy metals is one of the most stringent in the industry, More than government requirements. There is no purer oil.
Also, the parts of the Tuna we use are by-products of tuna harvested for food and are from a controlled and sustainable fishery.
