More zinc may mean less anger?
Well, apparently so. According to this article, a recent Japanese study reported that daily supplements of zinc may reduce measures of anger and depression in young women.
Scientists from Daigaku Junior College and Seitoku University stated in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition that a daily supplement of 7mg of zinc was associated with significant decreases in measures of anger-hostility and depression-dejection.
Zinc deficiency affects 30% of the world’s population, and mood swings are reportedly common symptoms of mild zinc deficiency among women. In men, zinc deficiencies are often associated with problems in producing testosterone and healthy sperm. Men need more zinc than women which is why we have more zinc in our Total Balance Men’s formulas.
Also, different forms of zinc follow different metabolic pathways. In the Total Balance Men’s formulas we use the standard ‘citrate’ form but add the ‘acetate’ form which targets the prostate which is the area of greatest deficiency for men.
